Bible Memorization: The Doctrine of Salvation: What it Means to Be Saved


Scripture Memorization (5 questions):

- Students must recite from memory key salvation passages covered in the presentation
- Romans 3:23 (ESV-CE): "For all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God"
- John 3:16 (ESV-CE): "For God so loved the world, that he gave his only Son, that whoever believes in him should not perish but have eternal life"
- Ephesians 2:8-9 (ESV-CE): "For by grace you have been saved through faith. And this is not your own doing; it is the gift of God, not a result of works, so that no one may boast"
- Romans 8:15-16 (ESV-CE): "You have received the Spirit of adoption as sons, by whom we cry, 'Abba! Father!' The Spirit himself bears witness with our spirit that we are children of God"
- 1 John 5:13 (ESV-CE): "I write these things to you who believe in the name of the Son of God, that you may know that you have eternal life"

 

Memorization Method For each passage:

  1. Read the verse aloud five times, looking at the text
  2. Cover the text and attempt to recite it from memory
  3. Check yourself against the text
  4. Repeat steps 1-3 until you can recite it perfectly
  5. Review each memorized verse daily for one week
  6. After the initial week, review weekly for a month

Application Challenge

For each verse you memorize, write a brief paragraph (3-5 sentences) explaining how this truth applies to your daily life as a Catholic. How might this verse shape your prayer, worship, relationships, or ministry?

 

SECONDARY SCRIPTURE MEMORIZATION (5 additional verses for extra points)

Students may earn up to 10 extra points by memorizing these additional salvation-related passages from the ESV-CE translation:

Extra Credit Verses:

- 2 Corinthians 5:17 (ESV-CE): "Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation. The old has passed away; behold, the new has come."
- Titus 3:5 (ESV-CE): "He saved us, not because of works done by us in righteousness, but according to his own mercy, by the washing of regeneration and renewal of the Holy Spirit."
- 1 Peter 1:3 (ESV-CE): "Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ! According to his great mercy, he has caused us to be born again to a living hope through the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead."
- Galatians 2:20 (ESV-CE): "I have been crucified with Christ. It is no longer I who live, but Christ who lives in me. And the life I now live in the flesh I live by faith in the Son of God, who loved me and gave himself for me."

Scoring:

Each perfectly recited verse earns 2 extra points. Students must recite word-for-word with proper citation.
